Dolby Laboratories announced plans on Sunday to launch its cinema technology in India, with six auditoriums set to open by the end of the year. The new installations include venues in Pune, Hyderabad, Trichy, Bengaluru, Kochi, and Ulikkal.

Dolby Laboratories detailed that City Pride in Pune, Allu Cineplex in Hyderabad, LA Cinema in Trichy, AMB Cinemas in Bengaluru, EVM Cinemas in Kochi, and G Cineplex in Ulikkal will be the first to provide a cinema experience featuring Dolby’s advanced visual and audio systems. The company highlighted the integration of technologies such as Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, alongside seating designs aimed at delivering an enhanced viewing experience.

Michael Archer, Vice President of Worldwide Cinema Sales and Partner Management at Dolby Laboratories, stated that the introduction of Dolby Cinema reflects a commitment to advancing cinematic storytelling. He noted that since its debut in 2014, the technology has expanded through partnerships with 35 exhibitors across 14 countries. Archer highlighted that the new installations in India will enable viewers to experience films as intended by the filmmakers.

Dolby Laboratories also mentioned a recent collaboration with Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad, which resulted in establishing the nation’s first Dolby Vision color grading facility for cinema. This facility is intended to support the production and screening of films with improved image quality.

While several cinema halls in India currently use Dolby Vision and Atmos systems, the Dolby Cinema-certified auditoriums are designed to provide a consistent viewing and audio experience across every seat. The auditoriums will feature a curved, wall-to-wall screen to increase viewer engagement.

Ticket pricing for the new Dolby Cinema experience will be set at a premium compared to standard screenings, reflecting the added value of the advanced technology and seating configuration.
